Nanaimo is the second largest city on Vancouver Island, with a population of approximately 220,000 (2006)including Nanaimo Regional District. Our climate is one of the mildest and sunniest in Canada and , while the scenery is quintessentially Vancouver Island: temperate coastal rainforests, sparkling ocean and majestic mountain ranges. Nanaimo also enjoys a reputation as a home for creative and artistic personalities and was named the Cultural Capital of Canada in 2008.
Nanaimo is situated between Victoria and Campbell River on the east coast of Vancouver Island; 111 kilometres by highway from Victoria and 18 nautical miles by ferry from Departure Bay to the Horseshoe Bay terminal in West Vancouver.
You can reach Nanaimo via passenger airline service from Vancouver International Airport, via seaplan air service from Downtown Vancouver or via ferry service from either downtown Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay Terminal or the Tsawwassen Terminal.
